Hotels in Egypt decrease accomodation prices during spring holidays

Several hotels based in Egypt reduced accommodation prices during spring holidays, particularly in Red Sea resorts, to face the decline in tourism.
Sherif Bahaa, head of marketing at a well-known hotel, said the occupancy rate in Taba’s hotels reaches an average of 70 percent during holiday times, but this year it is still less than that of last year. Bahaa said that the decrease is estimated at 20-25 percent.
He also added that some hotels lowered accommodation prices by 10-17 percent in order to attract tourists.
Bahaa noted that price drops shouldn’t extend beyond the upcoming few months.
Meanwhile, Sami Mahmoud, head of international tourism at the tourism ministry, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority seeks to stimulate tourism, but is against dropping prices, as increasing prices later will be difficult.
